Meet Maggie Morrison

Canadian pianist Maggie Morrison Makos is a performer, educator, and researcher recognized for her artistry, insight, and expressive musicianship. An award-winning pianist, she made her orchestral debut at the age of nine and has since performed extensively across North America and Europe.

Performance highlights include Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the North York Symphony Orchestra, solo appearances in the summer concert series at The Banff Centre, and chamber performances at Constellation Chicago. Maggie is a First Prize winner of the Michael Gieck Piano Competition, a four-time National Finalist at the Canadian Music Competition, and a semi-finalist at the Eckardt-Gramatté National Competition. In addition to performing, she is an in-demand adjudicator and clinician, having worked extensively across Canada and in Hong Kong, and has presented at national and provincial conferences, including a featured presentation with the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association in 2021.

Dr. Maggie Morrison Makos holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Toronto, where she studied with Jamie Parker of Canada’s Gryphon Trio. Her doctoral research examined editions of the Royal Conservatory of Music piano syllabus with particular focus on the inclusion of women composers, culminating in a catalogue documenting 306 newly included works by women composers in the 2022 syllabus edition. She currently serves as a member of the College of Examiners for the Royal Conservatory of Music.

A graduate of The Taylor Academy, the Glenn Gould School’s pre-college program for gifted young musicians at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Maggie earned her A.R.C.T. Performer’s Diploma at age fourteen. She also holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Cleveland Institute of Music.

In 2023, Maggie released her debut album VOICES on all major streaming platforms, featuring solo piano works by women composers. She is deeply committed to programming historically underrepresented voices alongside the traditional piano canon, fostering a more inclusive and expansive musical landscape.

Known for her warmth, leadership, and collaborative spirit, Maggie values connection and community in both performance and education. She offers private piano instruction in downtown Toronto, combining artistic excellence with thoughtful, supportive teaching.
